Locked out after your temp email expired
What still works and how to stop it happening again
You signed up somewhere with a 10 minute email. Now the site wants a code or a password reset, and it sends it to an address that no longer exists. Nobody can open that inbox, so the code goes nowhere.
The account is still there. Only the way back in is missing. Here is what you can still try, and how to make sure it does not happen next time.
Try these first
- Sign in without the email. If you still know the password, you may not need the inbox at all. Some sites only ask for a code on a new device, so try the phone or browser you used before.
- Use another way in. If you linked a phone number, or signed up with Google or Apple, use that instead.
- Change the email while you are still signed in. Check every app and browser where you might still be logged in. If one is, go to the account settings and put in an address you control.
- Ask support. Many sites can move an account to a new email if you prove it is yours. Have your username, the date you signed up, an order number or a payment receipt ready.
A new temp email will not help on its own. The account is tied to the old address until the site changes it.
Why it happens
Most temporary inboxes have a timer. After 10 minutes, an hour or a day, the address is gone for good, or it goes back into a pool where the next person can get it. Sites do not know that. They keep the address you gave them and use it every time they need to reach you: a reset link, a new device check, a warning before a trial ends.
There is more on this in why a 10 minute email locks you out.
How to stop it next time
- Use an address that never expires for any account you might come back to.
- Make sure you can open that inbox from another device, not only from one browser.
- Note which address you used for which site, next to the login in your password manager.
- Use your real email for anything you cannot afford to lose, like banking or work.
How freemail keeps you from getting locked out
On freemail.site the address never expires, so the next code always has somewhere to land. There is no signup to start. Messages are kept for 7 days on Free, 30 on Pro and 90 on Max, and the address stays after they go.
If you sign in with your email and a six digit code, your inboxes follow you to every device and survive a cleared browser. Codes show with a copy button the moment they arrive.

Common questions
Can I get my old temp email back
Usually not. Most timer based services delete the address for good. Some let you type the same name again, but then anyone else can type it too and read what arrives, so do not keep an account on it.
Can the site send the code to a different address
Only if you change the email on the account first, or if support moves it for you. Signing up again with a new address makes a new account.
Will freemail addresses expire too
No. The address stays yours for good. Only old messages are deleted, on the schedule of your plan.
