The best temp mail for verification codes
What to look for, and how 9 popular services compare
Almost any temp mail can receive a verification code. The best one for codes does three more things: nobody else can read your codes, the address still works when the site sends the next one, and you can find and copy the code in a second. Here is what to look for, and how popular services compare.
What makes temp mail good for codes
- Only you can read it. On some services, anyone who types the same inbox name opens the same inbox. They can read your code and use it to get into your account.
- The next code still reaches you. Sites send another code when you sign in on a new phone or reset your password. If the address is gone by then, you are locked out.
- You can get back in from another device. If your inbox lives in one browser only, clearing that browser can cut you off from an address that still works.
- The code shows up fast. Mail should appear without you pressing refresh, and the code should be easy to find in a long email.
- It warns you about fake senders. Scammers send fake security code emails too. A good inbox tells you when a sender cannot be confirmed.
How 9 popular services compare
This uses what each service says on its own pages, checked on 22 October 2026 for our comparison of 13 temp mail services.
| Service | Others can open it by name | The next code reaches you | Back in from another device |
|---|---|---|---|
| freemail | No | Yes, the address never expires | Sign in with your email and a six digit code |
| Temp Mail | No | Until you delete it or its domain list changes | A QR code, or a Premium login |
| 10 Minute Mail | No | No, the address ends after 10 minutes | No way back |
| Mail.tm | No | Until you delete it | Only with the password it gives you, with no reset |
| Emailnator | No | No, the address lasts 24 hours | Premium only |
| Guerrilla Mail | Yes | Yes, its FAQ says the address never expires | Type the same name |
| YOPmail | Yes | Yes, its site says inboxes are never deleted | Type the same name |
| Maildrop | Yes | Not stated | Type the same name |
| Mailinator public | Yes, it is public | Yes, any name works at any time | Type the same name |
"Not stated" means the service does not say on its own pages.
What the table tells you
- For a one time code on a site you will never visit again, any of them works. Pick whichever is open.
- For an account you want to keep, skip public inboxes and short timers. On a public inbox, a stranger can read the next code. With a short timer, the next code goes nowhere.
- That leaves a private inbox that lasts. Among those, check that you can get back in from another device, because a cleared browser or a lost password should not cost you the account.
Our pick, and why
We make freemail, so weigh our pick with that in mind. We built it for exactly this job.
- The address never expires, and only you can open it.
- Signing in with your email and a six digit code brings your inboxes back on any device. There is no password to lose.
- New mail appears live. When an email has a code, it gets a copy button the moment it arrives.
- Every email is checked. If the sender cannot be confirmed, you see a warning, and the code is held back instead of offered.
- The Free plan gives you up to 10 inboxes, so each site can have its own.

When temp mail is the wrong choice
- Codes sent by text message. Temp mail receives email only, so it cannot help with an SMS code.
- Accounts you cannot afford to lose. Banking, government, health and work accounts should get your real email.
- Sites that refuse it. Some sites block well known temp mail domains. If a site will not take the address, use your real email or an alias for that one site.
Common questions
Which temp mail is best for OTP codes
One where only you can open the inbox and the address lasts, so the next code reaches you too. Public inboxes and 10 minute addresses are fine for a one time code, but not for an account you want to keep.
Can someone else see my verification code in temp mail
On public services like Guerrilla Mail, YOPmail, Maildrop and public Mailinator, yes. Anyone who types the same inbox name can read it. On services that give you a private inbox, only you can.
Why did my verification code not arrive
Check that you pasted the whole address, then press the site's resend button and wait a minute or two. Some sites refuse well known temp mail domains. If the code still does not come, use an address you trust more for that site.
Can temp mail receive SMS codes
No. Temp mail receives email only. If a site sends its code by text message, you need a phone number for that step.
